Six Companies Hiring for Some of the Best Boston Jobs

Despite the current state of the economy, at least six companies are hiring for some of the best Boston jobs.

While many states are seeing a constant rise in unemployment and decrease in jobs, Boston is one of the few cities that is continuing to add jobs.

During October 2008, the Boston-Cambridge-Quincy area had a total non-farm employment of 2,519,600 workers, according to the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is up from 2,513,700 workers during September and a .6 percent increase from last year. The area had an unemployment rate of 4.6 during October, down from 5 percent during September and lower than the national unemployment rate of 6.5 percent.

Boston is home to five Fortune 500 companies, including: Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, State Street Corp., NSTAR, Iron Mountain and Cabot. The state also is home to six other companies that are usually looking to hire, including:

  • Bridgewell. Bridgewell is a private, non-profit organization that provides services to people with disabilities and mental illness throughout Northeastern Massachusetts. The company’s goal is to help individuals achieve greater independence and become valued and respected members of their communities through education and rehabilitative, treatment and innovative support activities.
  • General Dynamics C4 Systems. This company develops and integrates secure communication and information systems and technology. GDC4S currently employs more than 10,000 workers globally. The company specializes in command and control, communications networking, computing and information assurance for defense, government and commercial customers.
  • Integrity Interactive. Integrity Interactive assists leading companies and larger organizations in building ethical cultures that reduce risk. The company designs, develops and delivers technology-powered programs and services that reduce risk in compliance, ethics and corporate responsibility. The company’s services include: strategy and assessment; training and communication and measurement and reporting.
  • The Judge Rotenberg Educational Center. This company is a structured residential special needs program that serves children, adolescents and adults presenting with challenging behaviors, including autism and other conduct or psychiatric disorders. To educate and treat, JRC’s program involves the consistent application of many behavioral principles.
  • Metabolix. Metabolix is a bioscience company that provides sustainable, clean solutions to the public’s needs for plastics, fuels and chemicals. The company takes a systems approach, from gene to end product, to integrate biotechnology with advanced industrial practice. Metabolix has more than 320 patents worldwide.
  • RiskMetrics. RiskMetrics helps make the global financial markets more clear, accountable and viable. The company combines global organizations with one another and with their investors to expand the understanding and application of risk management and to drive better financial decisions. The company currently serves more than 2,300 institutions and 1,000 corporations in 50 countries.
